When you think of braces, what images come to your mind?

If you pictured a pre-teen with a mouth full of metal, we don’t blame you. After all, it’s much more common for individuals to wear traditional braces in adolescence.

However, modern teeth-straightening technology totally changes the game when it comes to straightening teeth as an adult. Forget about the stigma of “metal mouth” or the pain of traditional braces. Invisalign®, an invisible teeth-straightening technology, gives you the benefit of braces without the detrimental effects.

Because Invisalign® differs from traditional braces, patients usually have a lot of questions about this type of dental technology.

As such, our cosmetic dental clinic in Chula Vista wanted to take the time to answer the frequently asked questions we field about Invisalign®.

Q: How does Invisalign® differ from traditional braces?

In general, Invisalign® is faster, more affordable, and less cumbersome than traditional braces. This might seem too good to be true. How can something that is faster and better be more affordable? The simple explanation involves the amount of orthodontic work needed. With traditional braces, you have to go to the dentist practically every week for adjustments, new brackets, rubber bands, and dental work. However, with Invisalign®, you have fewer treatments and do most of the “work” yourself.

The other significant difference worth explaining is that Invisalign® is, as the name suggests, invisible. Instead of getting metal brackets glued to your teeth, you wear invisible retainer-esque aligners that are custom-made to fit your mouth. You can take out these aligners when you eat and wear them without anyone noticing.

Q: How does Invisalign® work?

The Invisalign® process is fairly straightforward. First, your dentist will take a 3D image of your teeth and jaw to access your current bite, tooth shape, and jaw structure. With this comprehensive information, your dentist will then create a custom treatment plan for your smile.

After taking the initial image, your dentist will create your custom aligners. These aligners, which you will rotate as you progress in your treatment, are made from FDA-approved, BPA-free, and transparent material. Your dentist will trim the aligners to ensure a perfect fit, so your aligners won’t lead to the same gum pain for which traditional braces are notorious.

You wear each aligner for between one and two weeks, and then you switch to your next set. This doesn’t mean that you’ll go to the dentist every week. Instead, you’ll get your sets of aligners a few weeks in advance, so you can switch on your own without needing to schedule a separate appointment.

Q: Who offers Invisalign® treatment?

Certified dental offices can offer Invisalign® treatment, and our cosmetic dental clinic in Chula Vista is one of these partners.

We’re also excited to offer a $500 discount on Invisalign® treatment at our dental office! Learn more about our Invisalign® promotion today and take advantage of this deal while it’s still active!

Q: How long does Invisalign® take?

Depending on your treatment plan and initial x-rays, you will wear your aligners for 12-18 months. This is a shorter duration than you’d expect with traditional metal braces.

Of course, this timeline and the success of your Invisalign® experience depends on whether you wear your aligners for the prescribed period of time (20-22 hours per day).

Q: Does insurance cover Invisalign®?

Most insurance plans cover Invisalign® treatment the same way they would cover traditional braces — they typically pay for a certain portion of your treatment, and you might have a lifetime cap on the amount of insurance money you can get for orthodontic treatment.

If you’re not sure about your insurance plan or don’t have access to insurance, you should still give us a call at Estrella Dental.
